We put our faith into action. We share God’s grace, providing care and support for our own church community and for people in communities near and far, as we participate in local and global ministries and missions work.
Stephen Ministry expands and strengthens the caring ministry of the church. Stephen Ministers provide one-on-one Christian care for people experiencing challenges in their lives. Stephen Ministers receive fifty hours of training and attend monthly supervision meetings. They walk alongside those who may be dealing with challenges, such as serious illness, grief, job loss, divorce and more. Stephen Ministers will work with a care receiver on a long-term or short-term basis, depending on need. Stephen Ministry is completely confidential. It is not limited to church members.
If you or someone you know could benefit from Stephen Ministry, please contact us at 517-351-7030.
We provide meals and transportation to members and friends of the church during times of need.

This group ties quilts and donates them to organizations that assist the homeless. It has been an important ministry to the community for many years, and there continues to be a great need for the quilts and more hands to make them. No experience is necessary.

There are several opportunities for mission work at University UMC. Mission work is done locally and abroad. Our United Methodist Women’s group supports various missions each year. Our Missions Team organizes trips to such places as Haiti and the Midwest Mission Distribution Center (domestic disaster relief). We supply birthing kits and other medical assistance in Haiti. We financially support Jane Kies, who is a missionary teacher in Zimbabwe at Africa University. Each year an event is organized which prepares 10,000 meals for worldwide distribution. The Missions Team also supports St. Vincent Catholic Charities efforts in receiving and resettling refugees. The Outreach Team specializes in local missions, such as Food Movers and the distribution of meals at Easter and Thanksgiving.
