Thank you, UUMC, for your gracious hospitality this summer. Jon and I were able to meet with over 70 people at the various meet-and-greet events that were held. Thanks to Staff Parish for hosting these events. This fall I will be having some “The Pastor is Out of the Office” Hours at several local coffee shops where you can drop by for coffee/tea and a time to chat in a more informal setting as your schedule permits. (See the announcement below for the dates.) And if we have not had a chance to meet yet and you would like to meet, please contact me via email (Mcarey@eluumc.org) and set up a time in person or via Zoom.
I encourage you to attend the exciting events on Saturday, August 27: Vacation Bible School, food trucks, and fellowship time in our garden with the REACH Band, followed by a Jazz Concert. Invite friends or family to attend any or all of the day as we kick off the fall season at UUMC. It is going to be a great day.
In mid-September, I will be leading a short-term (4 week) study class, both online and in person, based on the readings of author and theologian Frederick Buechner. Watch for class schedule and sign-up information coming soon. I will lead the same class at two different times each week, an evening and a daytime option. I am planning to lead another short-term study class for the season of Advent, using a book by Dr. Amy Jill Levine called Light of the World.
During the meet-and-greet times, many people mentioned the desire for more study classes at UUMC, and I would welcome others who feel called to lead and teach such classes to let me know if you feel called to teach and/or facilitate a class. We have many options now to use videos and Zoom for classes and even to offer hybrid classes.
I take Fridays as my sabbath day and am not available for meetings and appointments that day.
It is a blessing to serve as your pastor.
