Give me an E! Give me an O! Give me a G! What does it spell? EOG! What does it spell? EOG? What is an EOG?
I am so glad you asked! An EOG is an Estimate of Giving card. The EOG is a simple tool used by our finance committee to plan for programing, staffing, missions and other expenses in 2022. It is a simple tool but it is incredibly important.
The Estimate of Giving Card is what the name implies. Members and friends of University United Methodist Church are encouraged to estimate what they might contribute to the church in 2022. This will help us be more accurate in budget planning. Your estimate can be combined with other income sources the church has. Other revenue sources include building use fees, rent from tenants, MSU football parking and parking spaces leased to students. We can predict expenses with a high degree of accuracy. Estimating our income, though, is not as easy. Returning an Estimate of Giving card is really helpful.
Your estimate of giving for 2022 is an estimate. It is not a binding contract. Please make your estimate thoughtfully, prayerfully and responsibly. We know it is an estimate and we know that circumstances may change during a given year. Your estimate can always be modified.
It is even helpful to have cards returned stating, “I just don’t know about next year,” or, “I cannot make any estimate for 2022.” Living through the pandemic has required getting comfortable with uncertainty. If you’re just not sure about next year, put that on the card along with a note that you will be praying for our church. We will be praying for you, too.
You will receive an Estimate of Giving card later this month. Please return it by October 31. If you would like to download and print an EOG card and send it back now you can do that by clicking here.
Thank you for your kind words, your encouragement, your prayers, your time, your energy and your financial support in 2021. I look forward to more of the same in 2022!
