Rev. William Bills
Christmas Eve with UUMC
December 9, 2020
FROM THE PASTOR
For Christmas Eve this year we will offer two virtual services. At 6:00 p.m. on December 24, you are invited to tune into our Facebook page or our YouTube channel to see our Children and Youth Department’s presentation of “The Christmas Story from A to Z”. At 8:30 p.m., we will air a service of communion, candle light and carols.
“The Christmas Story from A to Z” will be directed by Sara Cardinal and Ethan Stout. Sara and Ethan will be gathering video from children and youth in the congregation for the telling of the Christmas story. Adam Zipple will also help with video recording and the final editing and production. Please tune in to watch the premier. If you cannot see the premier, it can be viewed at a later day and time.
The service of communion, candle light and carols will follow later on Christmas Eve. Members of our chancel choir, bell choir and the REACH band will share many of your Christmas favorites. We will also celebrate Holy Communion and light candles together at the end of the service. Adam Zipple will film and edit much of this service for us but we will also have submissions from church members.
Members of our Policy Governance Board have volunteered to deliver communion elements, a candle and a service bulletin to those who would like them. Please contact the church (517-351-7030 or firstname.lastname@example.org) for your delivery. You may use a candle of your own as well as grape juice and bread from your own home if you prefer.
The individually packaged communion elements that you will receive do not need to be refrigerated. They may be a little bit of a challenge to open. Please note that there are two layers to open. The top layer is a little bit delicate and it contains the communion wafer. The second layer is much easier to open and contains the juice. Be careful when opening your elements and don’t be afraid to ask someone for help. I will offer the Eucharistic blessing over the communion elements before they are delivered. Those who wish to pick up their communion elements, bulletin and candle at church may do so on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before Christmas Eve. Please call ahead and tell us how many you need and we will bring them out to your car.
One final special note: I encourage you to tune in to Facebook or YouTube a half an hour early on Christmas Eve for an extended time of prelude music. At 8:00 p.m., Connie Gamage will play ten Christmas songs from ten different countries for us. If you miss this, it can be viewed at a later time online.
(Please check out our Facebook and YouTube channel for a number of other special music offerings that have been posted for your enjoyment.)
At University United Methodist Church, we affirm that as disciples of Jesus Christ, we are an open and inclusive congregation and welcome all persons into full participation regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic situation, age, ability, education, background and whether single or partnered.
