Rev. William C. Bills
To date, people have either given or pledged $56,000.00 for the screens for the sanctuary. The fundraising goal is $70,000.00. $56,000.00 is enough to get the project started. The installation should be complete by mid-August. The remaining money to be raised will go toward a computer that will be needed to generate and run multi-media presentations, software and modification to the last pew near the sound board station so that a second station for video can be added. The project is being handled by AVI Systems, Wixom, Michigan. AVI is based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. They have twenty locations across the country. Their facility in Wixom is brand new. The AVI staff is very knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with.
This project will actually include more than just a couple screens for the sanctuary. There will be two flat panel screens placed on either side of the chancel, near the existing audio speakers. Two smaller screens will be installed in the chancel area for the choir and other worship leaders. Another will be placed on the balcony façade so that worship leaders and musicians can see what is on the screen without having to turn around and look backwards. Flat panel screens will also go above the credenza in the gathering space, near the coffee service and in Asbury hall. These additional screens will allow us to post continuous announcements, schedules, etc. They can also be used for other presentations such as lectures and slide shows. Asbury Hall is already served by high speed cable so we could even do something fun like watch the Lions in the Super Bowl next February.
All of the donations have been very much appreciated. We have a very generous congregation. The donations have ranged from $50.00 up to several thousand. Donations will still be gladly received. Anyone who would like to help us get to the goal amount may place a check in the offering or send it to the church in the mail. Please be sure to write “screens” on your check or envelope. Thank you to all who have been supportive thus far!
