Stewardship Letter from the UUMC Finance Chair, David Zimmerman

“Embrace the Challenge” 2019 Stewardship Campaign

November 15, 2019
David Zimmerman, UUMC Finance Chair

Dear UUMC Friend,

As you know, we’re getting closer to the end of the 2020 stewardship campaign “Embrace the Challenge.” Just as we dare to love God and each other, we also dare you to support the operation and outreach of UUMC.

This is to remind you there are two aspects to your financial giving:

  1. Operating Budget
  2. Mortgage Payment

Our current budget is approximately $544,000. If you break it down, percentagewise, it accumulates into four major categories (percentages are approximate):

  1. Pastoral services and Personnel – 62%
  2. Property Operations (Trustees) – 20%
  3. Music/Worship – 4%
  4. Mission/Special Givings – 14%

Current Mortgage (approx.): $775,000

Recent Building Fund History: In 2002, we built a new addition to our Church. It included a balance and additional classrooms. The original amount borrowed was $1,800,000 at 6% interest. The monthly payment is $12,783.57. The loan was modified effective August 1, 2012 and the interest rate lowered to 5.5%, a monthly payment of $9,769.90.

A New Loan: We purchased the Wesley Foundation property and entered into a new loan on March 27, 2015 which included the previous loan balance payoff, plus $200,000 for purchase of the remaining church property and $330,349 for necessary building renovations. Principal amount of this new loan is $1,225,349 which will be due for payoff April 1, 2030. 180 payments of $9,633.42 are due monthly, at a 4.9% rate of interest over 15 years.

With your continued and hopefully increased support, we will Embrace the Challenge as a church and congregation. You may indicate your support by filling out an “Estimate of Giving” card and returning it to the church. This card is very helpful in our budget planning process. If your circumstances change you can contact us and let us know that you need to change your estimate so we can plan accordingly.

We, the Finance Committee, will use your financial gifts in a prudent and fiscally responsible manner.

Thank you,

David Zimmerman
UUMC Finance Chair
